Born in Bogotá, Colombia,
I came to the United States in 1966. I attended public school in New
York and pursued higher education at Baruch College, City College of
New York, and Queensborough Community College majoring in the Arts and
Sciences. As a natural-born explorer, I have had a variety of experiences
including careers in performing arts, athletics, and the entrepreneurial
venture of running my own film production company in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
My commitment to the human experience is evident in the career choices
I have made.
In 1997 I began my private
practice in massage therapy, while simultaneously working at East West
Chiropractic. This is where I began to understand the inter-relationship
between physical anatomy and massage therapy which enhanced my appreciation
for the fine art of chiropractic medicine. My experience includes developing
“Earthstewards,” a therapeutic “touch-healing” program incorporating
massage therapists using different modalities and many other healthcare
providers. That combination allowed us to service many different needs
including insurance cases. Essentially we were able to offer an umbrella
of touch healing therapeutic choices. This paved the way for an experience
unmatched by any other; working in a higher-conscience organic health
food store, which was a loving environment conducive to a great sense
of happiness and purpose. The proprietor shared her abundant knowledge
of healthy nutrition, vitamin supplements, and her 30-year multi-faceted
wisdom in preventive health care. Body cleansing, green foods, and other
proof-positive practices were introduced to me. My personal foundation
was expanding at a rapid pace. I began to pursue other interests in
order to broaden my horizons and compliment my chosen field of massage
therapy. I am licensed in the State of New Mexico and New York. I am
also Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork including
certification as a Massage Therapy Instructor.
I am a graduate of the Dr.
Jay Scherer’s Institute of Natural Healing. Certified Reiki I and II
and Certified Colonic Therapist. My specialty training includes: Medical
Massage, Trigger Point: Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction Therapy, Hot
Stone Therapy, Integrative Neuromuscular Therapy and Disease and Self-Esteem
Therapy.
In 1999, my wife and I were
presented with a gift: a visit to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Over
the course of four years, our visits brought us a sense of belonging
and purpose, and my role as student and teacher expanded. My bilingual
abilities have provided me with the opportunity to be a student of the
Maya people; and with their support I have begun to implement an apprenticeship
program teaching massage therapy. My goal is to open a clinic/practitioner
center incorporating all my learning experiences. My wife and I plan
on an extended visit beginning in January 2003.
There are no words to express
my gratitude and appreciation for my teaching experience at the Scherer
Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico; it is an integral part of what I
intend to bring to the apprenticeship program. Special thanks to Lonnie
Howard, Director of the Scherer’s Institute of Natural Healing and for
all her unconditional support. An extra special thanks to my friend
and mentor for teaching me the ability to reach,
stretch and see things only a master can show.
